At DrivBase, we don't believe in cutting corners. While injection-molded plastics are cheap to mass-produce, they lack the structural customization needed to anchor heavy Technic models at complex angles. That is why we rely on state-of-the-art additive manufacturing (3D Printing) utilizing industrial-grade equipment and specialized thermoplastics.
Why PETG Over Standard Plastics?
Most consumer 3D printed products are made from PLA (Polylactic Acid) because it is cheap and easy to print. However, PLA is brittle, sensitive to UV light, and can warp or sag under constant weight in warm rooms. We exclusively use PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) for all structural components:
- Extreme Tensile Strength: PETG has high impact resistance and structural flexibility, meaning it will flex under heavy loads rather than snap.
- Thermal Stability: PETG does not warp or degrade in high temperatures, ensuring the mount remains rigid even in direct sunlight or heated rooms.
- Chemical & UV Resistance: Designed to last a lifetime without color fading or structural breakdown.
Our Manufacturing Process
Each mount undergoes a precise 3-step production cycle:
- Precision Slicing: We program our printers with optimized infill densities (gyroid patterns at 45%+) and reinforced outer walls to maximize structural load capacity.
- Calibrated Printing: Printed at high temperatures (245°C) to ensure perfect layer adhesion, eliminating weak points between printed lines.
- Manual Quality Control: Every mount is fitted against an official Technic chassis block to check tolerances before being cleared for shipping.
